A list of disaster declared areas was released by the NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Michael Gallacher last week.
Mayor Cr Andrew Douglas said the news is very welcome and can provide much needed funds to repair infrastructure.
'This declaration means that we are now eligible for a number of disaster assistance schemes.'
'These schemes can assist with the cost of restoration and recovery works needed throughout the shire after the storms and heavy rain earlier in the year,' he said.
The flood waters eventually reached Wakool Shire in early April. These impacted the northern part of the Shire on the Murrumbidgee floodplain with the worst affected areas being Waugorah Road and Lourica Road.
Council will now commence the process of a recovery works program so as to link in with the disaster assistance schemes as soon as possible.
'Repairing infrastructure is difficult without the support of outside funding, so we once again thank the NSW Government for considering Wakool Shire in their Disaster Assistance Arrangements," Cr Douglas said.
