On 18 December 2015, the NSW State Government outlined its plans to reduce the number of Regional councils from 109 to 87. As part of this process it proposed that Murray Shire Council merge with Wakool Shire Council to form a new council.
The State Government has now released further detail about the local government merger proposal for Murray and Wakool and the consultation process will be implemented over the coming month.

Boundary Review Process
The NSW Government has appointed Cheryl Thomas as the Delegate to examine the Wakool and Murray Shire proposal. Her prior experience is outlined on the Boundary Review website.
The role of the Delegate will be to examine and report on the proposal including review of submissions and holding a public inquiry.
Their report will be provided to the Boundaries Commission for comment only and the Minister for Local Government.
A public inquiry is part of the examination and reporting process conducted by the Delegate and provides an opportunity for members of the public to express their opinions on the proposal to the Delegate.
Members of the public who would like to attend are requested to register using the on-line registration form HERE or by contacting 1300 813 020. Members of the public who would like to speak at the inquiry are requested to indicate that they wish to do so when they register to attend.
Members of the public may only speak once at the inquiry and the order of speaking will be determined by the Delegate. Registrations to speak will close at 12noon on Friday 29 January for public inquiries held during the week of 1 February and registrations to speak will close at 12noon on Friday 5 February for public inquiries that are held during the week of 8 February.
