September Mayor's Message

It is with pleasure that I write this message as newly elected Mayor of the Wakool Shire. With the changes in leadership coupled with a new team following last year’s election, I am confident that I can lead our Council over the next twelve months and look forward to another year working towards ongoing council goals. In particular I look forward to focusing on economic development activities and seeing through the proposal for the new Community Hub in Moulamein.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cr Douglas for his invaluable guidance as Mayor over the last two years and his contribution to Wakool Shire since being elected to council in 2008. He has put a lot of energy and focus into his role as Councillor paying particular focus to the ongoing upgrade of our local road network and advocating for fairer outcomes for our local communities on the back of State and Federal Government decisions.

It is also time again for Australia Day Award nominations. This year awards will be given to Citizen of the Year, Junior Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson or Sporting Achievement of the Year and Community Event of the Year. We have an amazing amount of volunteers in our shire and people who are always willing to put in that little bit extra for the benefit of their communities and towns- so what better way to recognise them than through this awards process. Nominations are open until the end of October, so if you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the local community then please let us know about it.
